Assignment 04
Site Specific Typography: Documentation & Production

build a ¼ or ½ scale model of your typography and show this model to class. If your project has the ability to bypass the model phase, create your typography and bring this experiment to class fully constructed. If it is too large, too hard to transport, or for some reason you cannot bring your tyography to class, make a model. If you plan to project, bring in a presentation or representation of your project for review. This is open ended, but this does not mean to not spend time on your presentation. Print photos or renders, project or communicate your final design to us by any means necessary. Your goal is to feel fully prepared for the final outcome, the installation of your final project.

Consider art store materials to construct your scale model or final project. Balsa wood, foam core, cardboard, cold press and other materials could work very well for any aspect of this assignment. Hardware stores and Canal Plastics are fantastic resources as well.

Architect & Educator Stewart Hicks creates Youtube videos describing the practice of architecture. Architecture is an adjacent field to graphic design, sharing many similar principles. The above video describes Kwong von Glinow’s process in designing their living and worksing space. The below videos describes the model making process.
