Assignment 02
Collection: Final

Final Collection Catalog
Make any final adjustments to your catalog design. Print and bind your 8.5×11" collection. At minimum your catalog should be tape-bound. You can choose between black or white binding tape (this will create a quarter inch border on the left side of the page so factor this in to the design of your cover). Ask your copy shop to not add a clear acetate cover or additional cardboard backing to your catalog.
Standard copy paper is fine but you are encouraged to explore paper options, binding methods, cover types and printing effects to amplify the object quality of your catalog. Consider how a glossy or matte paper will highlight your content. How hard or soft cover could change your catalog’s appearance. Or if a binding method like japanese stab binding, or swiss binding could elevate your collection presentation.

To recap, your catalog must include:
• 50 documented objects
• cover design
• contents page & category title pages (if applicable)
• page numbers
• collection statement

Background
Explore different options to elevate the materiality of your catalog. Consider the book an object. Every decision is an opportunity to respond to your content. Binding the book in a more mechanical way, such as perfect binding, says something inherently as does binding in such a manner that exposes the hand made qualities like coptic or Japanese stab. Youtube is a fantastic resource for discovering and learning basic techniques.
