Assignment 04
Collection 05
collection Catalog
Your collection catalog should include your further refined cover design, a table of contents and category title pages (if your collection is organized by categories), page numbers, and a short statement introducing your collection (approx. 200 words) – either at the beginning or end of the book.
The InDesign catalog templates provided are 8.5×11 inches and you have the option of printing either 1 or 2 images per page, single-sided. (You can print double-sided if you wish as long as you don’t print more than 1 image per page, otherwise the catalog may be too thin to bind). You’re free to change the typography, layout, dimensions, or page orientation of the template.
Remember to factor in the white margin created by the laser printer in your design if you want any image or color to print ‘full-bleed’ on letter-size paper. To achieve this effect you would need to print on tabloid paper and then cut it down, however given the amount of wasted paper, it would make more sense to make your catalog slightly smaller than letter-size so the printer margins aren’t visible, or significantly larger.
Bring your catalogs to the SVA print shop to be tape-bound. You can choose between black or white binding tape (this will create a quarter inch border on the left side of the page so factor this in to the design of your cover). Ask them not to add a clear acetate cover or additional cardboard backing to your catalog. Standard copy paper is fine but if you’d like to use a slightly thicker paper stock.
To recap, your catalog must include:
• cover design
• contents page & category title pages (if applicable)
• page numbers
• collection statement
