Assignment 04
Collection 04
Type Lock-up Refinements
From your first round of type lock-up designs, select one and create 3 new variations that further explore its central idea and refine its visual expression. Explore compositional variations, subtle changes in type size and weight, and consider the benefit of adding color (color is optional). Don’t select 3 wholly new fonts for your 3 new variations at this stage (this would make them too different). Work with the one you have chosen or something similar if you haven’t quite found what you’re looking for.
Catalog Cover
Use 1 of your 3 type refinements in the design of 2 different catalog covers: 8.5×11 inches or a size of your choice, in full-color or black & white.
Elements your catalog cover must include:
• type lock-up
• one or more collection images, or, an abstract illustration or texture
Combine the type lock-up either with images from your collection, or with a newly created abstract illustration (it might be an extension of a motif in your type lock-up). If using imagery, consider whether to highlight just one single representative image from your collection, a few, or many. You could also recombine your collection imagery in such a way as to create a new image (e.g. if you are collecting individual objects, you could compose a new image with a small selection of them).
