Assignment 03
Restaurant Identity

Chef _________ has asked for you to work on the identity design for their upcoming restaurant, _________. In class you will pick a number of descriptions which explain the spaces cuisine, ambiance, price, inspiration and a character trait about the chef.
You’re to design a logo and wordmark for the restaurant. The logo is a graphic symbol, think the Nike swoosh or Apple's bite logo. A wordmark is the name of the restaurant as a text-only typographic treatment, think coca-cola or IBM. These elements can be ‘locked-up’ together, or can live by themselves as distinct graphics as a part of the system.
Along with the logo, you’re asked to design the menu and a take away item that guests can leave the restaurant with. This take away item should be special, something that relates to the identity you’re developing. Generally it can be something like a business card, matchbook or coaster… but the chef really wants you to think out of the box and create something more memorable than that. The chef has some name recommendations, but want you to develop something yourself.

Round 01 —Decide on a name. Think about the type of food your restaurant serves. Is there an interesting aspect to this type of cuisine worth expolring graphically? Maybe you start with the name and ambiance and what it reminds you of. Or a quirk about the chef, what do they like?
Consider restaurant design tropes. What do fancy restaurants usually look like? What do inexpensive places usually look like? Should you follow the trend, or go against the grain?
Have two distinct directions for all components: Your logo, wordmark, menu and take away item in draft form. These directions should be totally different from one another graphically and conceptually. You can simply print these on standard size paper.
Consider your menu and what it’s made out of. Should it be a simple paper menu, or does it make sense to make something more than that?
