Assignment 02
Editorial Design

Your the editor and Chief of the new magazine ______________. You need to design and art direct issue 1. Find a cover story. Design the front cover, and design the feature. The feature must be at least 3 spreads.

Final Deliverables
Cover
Magazine name (wordmark)
3 feature spreads

Round 01 —Decide what your magazine subject is. Give it a name. Start designing the name's wordmark on the cover. The wordmark will help you figure out what your magazine tone is. One of the easiest factors to decide is your publications audience. Who is reading the magazine? Why would they be attracted to the design decisions you’re making?
Now that you have your magazine category in mind, decide who to feature in your first issue. Begin finding artwork and photography that make sense for the feature article. How does the imagery support the tone of your magazine?
Design 3 different covers. Experiment with style and tone. Figure out how the wordmark works with your imagery. Start working with text and what your feature title looks like. Bring in 3 different covers for class, all in totally different styles and layouts.

Round 02 —We will narrow your covers down from three to one in class. Refine your cover and extend the system to your feature spreads.
